Allerton Concert Series - Irish Fest

    6:00 PM-9:00 PM
    2017.08.04
515 Old Timber Road, Monticello, IL, United States

    Irish Fest

    Friday, August 4
    6pm – 9pm
    Gate House Lawn

    6pm The Shanties | 7:30pm Skipper’s Alley

About the bands: “Skipper’s Alley are a 7-piece ensemble whose dynamic take on traditional Irish music has garnered wide critical praise and featured on such diverse stages as The Late Late Show, La Festival Interceltique de Lorient, and the Irish Embassy in Zambia. Described by The Irish Times as “gloriously three-dimensional”, the group spring from harp-accompanied Sean-Nós songs to feral, unkempt sets of reels, creating a sound that is both “scintillating” and “a model of tender delicacy” (David Kidman, The Living Tradition).”

The Shanties “new Irish” music is filled with rocked-up Irish favorites, old, new, and originals. The focus is the up-tempo rowdier melodies with pop Irish influence from Solas, Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, and Flogging Molly. The blended singing and instrument sounds of fiddle, mandolin, whistle, guitar, and the Irish (drum) bodhran create their unique sound.
